Edinburgh's stylish arthouse cinema. The cinema shows a collection of major arthouse films, foreign-language and Independent films. The Cameo Cinema bar serves hot and cold drinks, has a relaxed atmosphere that makes it an ideal meeting point. The cinema is fully licensed so you can take your drinks in to the cinema. Edinburgh's favourite independent arts cinema originally opened in 1914 as the King's Cinema. It was refurbished in 1949 when it was renamed The Cameo. In the mid-1980s two extra stadium-seating screens were added and the original main auditorium was restored to its full Edwardian splendour.
More recently the bar has been extended and totally transformed, offering a wide selection of beers, wines and cocktails and a delicious range of fresh bar food, which can all be enjoyed in the comfort of sumptuous leather settees. The film programme represents the very best in world cinema, bringing you all the latest titles, classic re-issues, documentaries, Sunday double bills and special events with filmmakers. These are all available at a range of ticket prices to suit all pockets, including the popular cheap-day Mondays.
The Cameo Picturehouse is served by buses: 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 23, 27 and 37 to Tollcross or the 23 and 27 to Lauriston Place. Car parking information:
