The Scottish Mining Museum is a 5 Star visitor attraction which provides a great day out for all ages! They are based at one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian colliery in Europe, the Lady Victoria Colliery at Newtongrange, just nine miles from Edinburgh. Visitors to the museum will marvel at the sheer size of the place, be astounded by the engineering brilliance behind all the machinery and retrace the footsteps and struggles of the thousands of miners and their families before them. A tour of the museum includes: -a fully accessible, three-story visitors centre
-the largest winding engine in Scotland - which hauled men and coal up and down the pit shaft for nearly 90 years and is still in working order -two audio visual shows -Big Stuff - massive mining machinery tour (a tour of our large object store which runs on Wednesdays and Sundays only) -licensed restaurant with play and picnic area -gift shop On your tour you will use our unique 'magic helmets' which are fitted with remote-controlled headphones to describe what you are looking at on site. And you can get the personal insights and anecdotes of our guides, all of whom are ex-miners!
Opening Hours: OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK... BIG STUFF TOURS Admission: Adult £6.50 The Museum operates a three part ticket which is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. If you can't manage to fit it all in on one visit, or if you come on a day the Big Stuff doesn't run, you can use your ticket to come back again!
