Royal Botanic Garden

Home > Attractions > Royal Botanic Garden

The Botanics captures the imagination of everyone who visits and is world renowned for its horticultural excellence. Over 70 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds provide a tranquil haven just one mile from the city centre.

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) was founded in the 17th century as a physic garden. Now it extends over four Gardens boasting a rich living collection of plants, and is a world-renowned centre for plant science and education.

The Terrace Cafe here serves delicious hot and cold food daily and, when the sun shines, the tables spill out onto the terrace where visitors can enjoy an alfresco lunch with an unrivalled view of the city skyline.

RBGE's exciting programme of events and exhibitions means there's something for everyone to do, all year round.
