Edinburgh Zoo is owned by The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS). Set in 82 acres of sloping parkland, the Zoo is situated three miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre. Apart from getting close to over 1,000 rare and endangered animals, there are many different ways to enjoy your day out.; You can experience a busy programme of educational events and activities - ranging from keeper talks through to hands-on animal encounters - and a wide-range of eating experiences, several play areas, a fantastic gift shop, free hilltop safari rides. The zoo's mission is 'To inspire and excite visitors with the wonder of living animals, and so to promote the conservation of threatened species and habitats.'
Attractions at the zoo: Rainbow Landings which provides visitors with a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with beautiful rainbow lorikeet birds. Budongo Trail allows visitors to see chimpanzees in the world's most innovative, interactive chimpanzee enclosure. Watch these amazing creatures in their home and learn all about the links between humans and our closest relatives. Living Links, in association with Budongo Trail, is a primate education and research facility which houses capuchin and squirrel monkeys. Visitors can see these primates swinging around their enclosures, learn about research carried out here, and find out about future development. Animal Antics allows you to have fun, learn fascinating facts, and watch our animal extroverts perform gravity defying stunts. Edinburgh Zoo is home to the UK's only Koalas, housed in a wonderful Australasian-themed exhibit. The Zoo also has the largest penguin pool in the world.
